NU Student Programs and Internships
Castellani Art Museum Internship Policy
In conjunction with Niagara University’s Art History with Museum Studies Bachelor of Arts Program, offered through the Department of Theatre and Fine Arts, the Castellani Art Museum (CAM) provides a limited number of internship opportunities for students actively enrolled in the program.
Internships are offered during the fall and spring academic semesters. Weekly hours are kept flexible to accommodate class schedules, but a total of 150 hours/semester must be completed for an internship to qualify for 3 credit hours. Internships are jointly supervised by the Director of the Castellani Art Museum and the Director of the University’s Art History with Museum Studies (AHM) Program.
The CAM’s standard internship provides the undergraduates in our AHM Program with a broad introduction to museum functions and to the professional responsibilities of CAM staff. Interns have the opportunity to work in the areas of membership, marketing, special events, collections research, museum education, customer service, curating, art preparation and installation.
Generally speaking, AHM students may intern at the Castellani Art Museum on a one time basis. To ensure the highest quality educational experience, the CAM offers only one internship each semester. AHM students are strongly encouraged to seek additional internship opportunities available at our region’s other fine cultural institutions.
From time to time, specially designed internships may be connected to a specific museum need or project. These opportunities will be posted on our CAM website as they become available.
Prospective interns should submit a completed application form (found on the CAM website), a resume, and two academic referrals attesting to the quality of the applicant’s work. Selected applicants will then be interviewed by the CAM and AHM Directors as well as museum staff.
The CAM’s Fall Semester Internship takes places from September through early December. The deadline for submitting an application for a Fall Internship is April 15.
The CAM’s Spring Semester Internship runs from February through early May. The deadline for submitting an application for a Spring Internship is October 1.
