In King of Power, Queen of Beauty, the Castellani Art Museum invites visitors to explore one of the world’s most iconic landscapes through the lens of art, history, and human imagination. Drawn from CAM’s permanent collection and select loans, the exhibition traces how Niagara Falls has been seen, shaped, and reimagined over time—both as a site of immense natural beauty and as a powerful force harnessed by industry.
From the early 19th century through the rise of modern tourism, Niagara Falls became a global destination—earning its title as the “Honeymoon Capital of the World” while simultaneously fueling industrial innovation. Through prints, photographs, ephemera, and contemporary works, the exhibition explores this dual identity: the Falls as both King of Power and Queen of Beauty. Visitors will encounter breathtaking historic views alongside narratives of engineering, environmental change, and the evolving relationship between people and place.
Organized around themes of industry, awe, and romance, the exhibition reveals how generations of artists have responded to the Falls’ dynamic presence—from early engravings capturing its sublime grandeur to works that reflect its role in shaping regional identity and memory. These perspectives are complemented by opportunities for visitors to share their own connections to Niagara Falls, creating a living dialogue between past and present.
At its core, King of Power, Queen of Beauty celebrates Niagara Falls not as a static landmark, but as an evolving icon—one that continues to inspire, challenge, and define the cultural landscape of Western New York and beyond.
