Overview

Explore the intersection of traditional art, economy, and community building through the artists, community members, and activities of Stitch Buffalo, a textile-arts based organization based in Buffalo, New York. With a mission of empowerment, community building, creativity, and cultural preservation, the organization was founded in 2014 in response to the rapid resettlement of refugees in Buffalo.

This traveling exhibition developed by the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University and Stitch Buffalo will feature interpretive panels, artist photo profile panels, an exhibition catalog, short-form videos, an exhibit interactive exploring art and economy, and 20 to 30 artworks of various types and sizes. Learn about the impact and use of fiber arts in expressing cultural heritage, memory, and identity in Old/New Threads—from palm-sized star ornaments and house blessings to embroidered shawls and clothing—created by Stitch Buffalo artists.

Applications to reserve this traveling exhibition will open in Summer 2024, and begin circulation in Spring 2025.
