George Inness’ Sunburst features a warm, shimmering atmosphere, laying long shadows and dappled  light on a field and forest edge. Capturing the scene just moments before the sun rose from behind a  tree, and with a possible gesture toward Impressionism, the artist placed a dollop of vivid orange in the  center of the work—hinting of the imminent power of the sun.
