Looking Into Other Worlds: Works from the Permanent Collection

Sep 19, 2024 - Sep 8, 2025

  • Reception Sep 19, 2024 • 4:30-8 p.m.

Overview

Offering an in-depth exploration into our Museum's  art collection, Looking Into Other Worlds showcases both recent acquisitions and works that have not been on public view for many years. The title is inspired by written elements on the recently acquired artwork titled Looking In by American visionary artist Howard Finster (1916 – 2001): it uses these prophetic words to connect to other fantastic artistic expressions

Collectively, the works featured in Looking into Other Worlds inspire a sense of awe, self-reflection, and an expanded perspective on our world and the realms beyond our visceral daily experiences. Through wide-ranging artistic expressions, this exhibition seeks to evoke emotions that broaden the viewer's horizons and deepen their engagement with the fundamental questions and wonders of existence.

CAM continues to expand the collection by prioritizing historically underrepresented and emerging artists. This selection showcases works that challenge artistic norms, present diverse viewpoints, and inspire reflection.

The opening reception on September 19 is from 4:30–8 p.m. (4:30–5:30 p.m. VIP, Niagara University, and Members Reception, 5:30–8 p.m. Public Reception). The gallery opens in tandem with Who Told You That You Were Naked: Surveillance and Human Vulnerability, and promises to be a captivating introduction to this semi-permanent showcase of collection works.
